About Jennifer

Two decades treating the whole person.

I’m Jennifer Higgins — a holistic, integrative mental health counselor in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, blending therapy, movement, and nutrition to help you feel like yourself again.

For over twenty years, I’ve worked as an integrative mental health counselor — and the connection between mind and body has been clear to me for as long as I can remember. It’s my passion and my mission to help people discover what powerful medicine movement and nutrition truly are. Weaving them into therapy is what has let me empower clients to take their wellbeing into their own hands.

It started when I was a teenager. I noticed that exercise lifted my mood and my confidence, and I fell in love with it. The physical changes were a gift — but what really hooked me was something deeper: when I was struggling with anxiety, depression, and the weight of post-traumatic stress, movement could lift me out of a place that felt impossible to climb out of any other way.

As an undergraduate studying psychology, I chased down every chance to research the science behind how physical movement shapes mental health. Soon after earning my degree, I became a certified personal trainer. I noticed something remarkable: my training clients found it easy to open up about the hardest parts of their lives while we moved — and they left each session with clearer minds and lighter moods. That experience sent me searching for a holistic counseling program, where I could go deeper into how movement, meditation, and spirituality can transform mental health.

More than twenty years later, as both a counselor and a personal trainer, I’ve developed a way of working that’s entirely my own — one that improves mental health through counseling, exercise, and nutritional change, and that always sees the whole person, never a symptom in isolation.

Mental health and physical health cannot be separated — and neither will be optimal without the other.
